What are the options?

Gas Ducted Heating

Fixed gas heater which uses natural or LPG gas to heat the air which is then distributed through ducts into your home

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Ducted Refrigerated air conditioners consist of a compressor, fan and heat exchange coil and use a refrigerant to cool or heat the air.

How does it work?

Gas Ducted Heating

Ducted gas heating consists of a furnace, ducting outlet registers and a return air grille.

The furnace is fuelled by Natural gas or LPG

Air is drawn in by a fan and passed over a heat exchanger which warms the air.

Ducts distribute the warm air through the home.

The return air grille recirculates air to the furnace beginning the cycle again.

Ducted gas heaters can be installed inside the roof space, on an external wall or under the house (the most suitable installation type depends on your house construction).

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioners have two separate mechanical parts, an outdoor compressor and an indoor unit with fan and heat exchange coil.

The outdoor compressor unit compresses liquid into a gas state to allow the refrigeration effect to take place, exactly the same way as does your home refrigerator.

When in heating mode the cooling cycle is simply reversed.

The compressed gas is transferred into the indoor unit.

The fan is connected and then controlled by a room installed thermostat that draws the air from inside the home, passes it through a filter and then recirculates throughout your home approximately 10 times each hour.

How much does it cost?

Gas Ducted Heating

$2,000 - $7,000 * Prices are a guide only and could vary depending on a number of factors including size, brand and difficulty of installation. An in house quote is recommended for an accurate price.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

$5,000 to $25,000 * Prices are a guide only and could vary depending on a number of factors including size, brand and difficulty of installation. An in house quote is recommended for an accurate price.

How much will it cost to run?

Gas Ducted Heating

Running costs will vary in every home based on a number of factors including the size of the home, the efficiency of the unit installed, and the quality of materials used. Gas heaters will generally provide heating at a lower cost for heating a whole home than refrigerated options.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Electric heat generally is more expensive to run than gas ducted heating. The sizing and zoning of your system is critical to reduce running costs. At Sustainable Air, we specialize in developing energy efficient solutions, and designing systems that will work effectively regardless of the conditions outside.

What is the most effective system for the climate in Melbourne and Latrobe Valley?

Gas Ducted Heating

Ducted Gas Heating works efficiently no matter how cold it is outside, so is suitable for all climates. It will cope with all the extremes of climate in the Melbourne and Latrobe Valley areas.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Split ducted systems are suitable for most climates. The colder the climate, the less effective this form of heating will be. This makes sizing the unit you purchase critical. If your ducted refrigerated system is undersized, it will never effectively heat your home. We specialize in developing energy efficient solutions and designing systems that will work effectively regardless of the conditions outside.

Lifestyle considerations?

Gas Ducted Heating

Gas ducted heating can remove moisture from the air and create a drying effect. Optional humidifiers are available on some units, which can reduce this effect and also reduce running costs.

Quality filters and regular cleaning of filters are recommended to reduce dust circulating within your home.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Electric heating can remove moisture from the air and dry the skin and eyes. Optional humidifiers are available on some units which can reduce this effect and also reduce running costs.

Environment considerations?

Gas Ducted Heating

An environmentally friendly option, gas heaters have lower greenhouse emissions compared to electric heaters and inefficient solid fuel heaters. Correct sizing and zoning of your system will minimize wastage and impact on the environment.

Ducted Reverse Cycle Refrigerated Air Conditioning

Electric heaters have higher greenhouse emissions compared to gas heaters. Correct sizing and zoning of your system will minimize wastage and impact on the environment.

Sustainable air recommends smart zoning option for ducted refrigerated systems (LINK TO COOLING ZONING OPTIONS).

Adrian was very polite and knowledgeable about heating.
He was respectful of my budget, measured and calculated exactly what I would need and the installation all went smoothly. Highly recommended!
